Simple 3 ingredient spelt flatbread: flour, water and oil

A simple 3 ingredient spelt flatbread recipe; flour, water and oil. I have been testing. This flatbread is a quick and easy flatbread, no oven is required as this cooks in a frying pan. We occasionally use this flatbread to make mini pizzas when we are craving pizza and in a hurry. Add salt or spices to the dough if desired. Rolling into a ball and then flatten the dough with a rolling pin. They don't need to be perfect to have a great-tasting flatbread for dips, wraps, or a side with dinner.

Takes = 10 minutes preparation + 15 minutes resting (easier to roll)
Cooking = 2-4 minutes per bread
Makes = 6-8 pieces

Ingredients

  • Spelt Flour, whole grain or white or your choice – 250g  + dusting
  • Warm Water – 150ml (2/3 cup)
  • Oil – 1-2 tablespoons + frying
  • Pinch of salt (optional) – it makes 4 ingredients

Method

Step 1
Mix all ingredients in a bowl by hand or with a mixer using a dough hook. Knead until smooth. Rest for 15 to 30 minutes.

Step 2
Divide into 6 or 8 pieces. Flatten with your hands and use a rolling pin to make a thin bread. If you don't have a rolling pin, improvise with a bottle, jar or tall glass. For a rustic not too flat or perfect press with your hands.

Step 3
Add a little oil to a heavy-based frypan, once at a medium heat cook the bread on each side until brown. It is best to roll and cook one at a time. After the bread is cooked, place it on a plate with a paper towel or baking paper and cover it with a tea towel or cloth to keep the bread warm and soft. Freeze once cooled. Stored in a sealed container on the bench or in the fridge if warm or humid. Freshen up the following day in the toaster or in the microwave for 30 seconds
